This medicine provides iron and an essential vitamin to treat or prevent anemia. It helps your body make new healthy red blood cells and is very important during pregnancy. It is considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Indications

This capsule is used for the treatment, control, prevention, & improvement of the following diseases, conditions and symptoms:
  • Iron deficiency
  • Treatment of megaloblastic anemias due to a deficiency of folic acid
  • Treatment of anemias of nutritional origin, pregnancy, infancy, or childhood
  • This may also be used for purposes not listed here.

Pharmacology

is the combined preparation of carbonyl iron and folic acid. It contains carbonyl iron with not less than 98% iron content. Carbonyl iron, having high bioavailability and low toxicity, is safer and more effective choice for iron supplementation.

Dosage & Administration

Important:
Do not take any medication without a doctor's prescription. Self-medication can be dangerous.
Adult: One capsule daily before food or as directed by the physician.

Interaction

Carbonyl iron may decrease the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, quinolone antibiotics, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa and penicillamine. Folic acid interacts with antiepileptics, so plasma concentrations of phenobarbital, phenytoin and primidone are possibly reduced.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. Iron therapy is contraindicated in the presence of hemolytic anaemia.

Side Effects

Allergic sensitization has been reported following oral administration of folic acid. Oral iron preparation may cause constipation, particularly in older patients, occasionally leading to faecal impaction.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Use of any drug during the first trimester of pregnancy should be avoided if possible. Thus administration of iron during the first trimester requires definite evidence of iron deficiency.Prophylaxis of iron deficiency where inadequate diet calls for supplementary iron and folic acid is justified during the remainder of pregnancy.

Precautions & Warnings

Iron chelates with antacid and tetracycline and absorption of all these may be impaired if taken concurrently.

Storage Conditions

Do not store above 30°C. Keep away from light and wet place. Keep out of reach of children.
