This is an ear drop used to treat fungal infections in the ear canal. It works by stopping the growth of the fungus causing the infection. It is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Indications

Clotrimazole ear drop is indicated for the treatment of fungal infections of the ear.

Description

Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent that is used for the treatment of dermal infections caused by various species of pathogenic dermatophytes, yeasts, and Malassezia furfur. The primary action of clotrimazole is against dividing and growing organisms. Clotrimazole inhibits ergosterol synthesis, resulting in abnormal cellular permeability. This inhibits fungal growth. It has also antibacterial activity.

Pharmacology

Clotrimazole kills fungi and yeasts by interfering with their cell membranes. It works by stopping the production of ergosterol, which is an essential component of fungal cell membranes resulting in increased membrane permeability and leakage of essential constituents of the fungal cells.
