Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration

  • Children: (6 years & above): 1/2 Tablet (25 mg). 1 tablet should be taken at least 30 minutes before journey (before or after meal), repeat 1 tablet if journey is more than 6 hours
Postoperative Nausea & Vomiting, Meniere's disease:
  • Adults: 1 Tablet (50 mg) every 6-8 hours daily
  • Children: (6 years & above): 1/2 Tablet (25 mg) every 6-8 hours daily

Interaction

Cyclizine Hydrochloride may have additive effects with alcohol and other CNS depressants e.g. hypnotics, tranquillisers, anaesthetics, antipsychotics & barbiturates. It enhances the soporific effect of pethidine & also counteract the haemodynamic benefits of opioid analgesics.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to the other excipients. Cyclizine is contraindicated in the presence of acute alcohol intoxication. The anti-emetic properties of cyclizine may increase the toxicity of alcohol.

Side Effects

Itching or skin rashes, swelling of the face, lips or throat, difficulty in breathing or wheeziness.

Pregnancy & Lactation

It is safe in pregnancy according to TGA category "A" & US FDA category "B". Cyclizine Hydrochloride is excreted in milk. So in case of lactating mother, precaution should be taken before taking Cyclizine Hydrochloride.

Precautions & Warnings

Cyclizine Hydrochloride should be used with caution and appropriate monitoring in patients with glaucoma, urinary retention, obstructive disease of the gastrointestinal tract, hepatic disease, hypertension, epilepsy, severe heart failure.
